Primary

Primary

In the primary section, the children are exposed to a more structured and value-based approach to learning, using a blend of the British and Nigerian curriculum

CURRICULUM

Mathematics

This aspect of the curriculum exposes the children to 3 key learning areas of Number Operations; Core Mathematics, Mental Arithmetic and Quantitative Reasoning. We believe there is no other way to develop love for numbers, build mental discipline, and encourage logical reasoning than laying a solid mathematical foundation. To achieve this, we have qualified and experienced Mathematics teachers as members of our staff faculty, our Mathematics campaign allows children take part in early morning Math drills and periodic Mathematics competition while they are also taught using the best possible approach during classroom activities.

Language

This aspect of the curriculum exposes the children to 6 key learning areas of the English Language; Creative Writing, Comprehension, Grammar, Phonics & Spelling, Handwriting and Verbal Reasoning. The children learn to read, write, pronounce words correctly, address an audience and speak confidently during their English language class. An awareness of Indigenous and Foreign languages is key to us, hence the integration of Yoruba and French languages in our curriculum. During the Creative writing class, the children are exposed to the 3 genres of literature; prose, poetry, and drama with a deliberate infusion of role play and stage performance. Children also have access to the library where they are can read and borrow books across different topics through the Learning Enrichment Programme (LEP).

Science

This aspect of the curriculum focuses on developing the children’s understanding of the world around them and helping them to develop their scientific skills. It also focuses on helping children develop important skills such as observation, communication, and critical thinking. The curriculum is set out year – by year across the key stages to cover 3 key learning areas of Science; Life science, Physical science and Chemical science.

General studies / Geography

At Key stage 1 (Year 1 & 2), the children are introduced to topics on maps, symbols, and locations of places on the map, landforms, etc. Upon moving to Key Stage 2 (Year 3 – 6), the children will be learning more refined topics around the 3 key areas of learning; physical geography, human geography and environmental geography.

Computing

The use of technology is embedded in our everyday interactions with the children. Each classroom is equipped with a projector that allows for visual learning, and an IP board that allows for learning exchange. Children are also exposed to computer appreciation through the use of computers during their ICT lessons. At the beginning of the academic year, each child will be expected to own a device that allows them practice their computing lessons both in school and at home. Also, the children will be expected to check for uploaded assignments and information on Microsoft Teams. Weekly follow up activities and videos will also be shared on Teams to reinforce each week’s learning goals. Our overall goal is to prepare each child for the future using global learning standards and tools.

Art & Design

The children are exposed to a variety of creative experiences such as creative art, drawing, painting, sculpture, craft and design

Citizenship

The citizenship curriculum is a careful integration of the Civic Education, Social studies and History schemes. Value based topics like Discipline, Self - leadership, Service, Respect, Integrity etc. are also carefully embedded in this curriculum.

Design & Technology

The curriculum allows children develop practical skills with making products and using different tools and equipment. Depending on the scheme focus and the specific product they are making, it can vary from using scissors to using kitchen equipment for cooking. They would also learn how to select the right materials or ingredients for a specific product and use them correctly during the making process.
